Born on an American air base in Japan, Liz spent most of her childhood in Biloxi, Mississippi and in the former West Germany. She earned an undergraduate degree in Political Science from Hope College and a PhD in Literature from the University of Denver (DU). She has taught at DU, the University of Michigan, and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has also designed arts-based writing programs for underprivileged youth, medical students, wounded warriors, teachers, and corporations at the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Gallery of Art, and the National Portrait Gallery.
